Handcrafted concrete countertops for the modern home

About Concrete

Why concrete? Concrete is an incredible medium for architectural, visual and artistic expression. Creative possibilities, hand made craftsmanship and quality, simple organic beauty: these are just a few terms that can be used to describe fine concrete work.

Organic [adjective]:

“……denoting a relation of elements of something such that they fit together harmoniously as necessary parts of a whole”

Although the process of manufacturing the cement “glue” that goes into a concrete piece can hardly be described as organic, there is certainly an organic element and earthen rusticity that is integral to every concrete piece. Gravel, sand and water: these are the basic ingredients. Concrete is built to last. Where other mediums break down or become visually haggard over time, concrete goes the distance. Although not inexpensive, concrete is more affordable than slate or granite. All my pieces are hand crafted in the Bulkley Valley and come with little or no shipping costs or headaches. I see this as a huge benefit when considering the carbon footprint of the product, with 80% of the materials acquired locally and relatively short distances to travel for delivery.

The options available to the home or business owner when working with concrete are simply endless. The only real limiting factor is weight. And although I find myself constantly inspired to create new and different pieces, I could never describe the full extent of the possibilities available to me as a concrete artisan. I recommend to all my clients that they Google “concrete countertops” and start exploring the images and ideas that can be found on the internet, get an idea of what they might want in a piece, then we can start the creative process together.
